Anybody have a good source getting a new or rebuilt differential for a 2005 Dodge Durango 5.7 AWD. The front diff on the wife's truck is howling bad. Lately I haven't had good luck setting up gears so curious if anybody has a good resource for getting the entire front diff assembly. _________________ Stop running from your pain and embrace your pain. why the trouble? paint the teeth and center the pattern. time consuming but its not rocket science. gotta use quality parts though. what setup issues are you having? _________________

You could bring it up for a visit. I have all the stuff here to do it. EBay looks like a good bet depending on the ratio. _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec

Does the Dodge use IFS or a live axle?
If it is IFS it would be about the same amount of work to swap out the center section as to rebuild one I would think. Of course you would have to match the gear since it is a 4x4 and both axles need the same ratio.
If it is a live axle it is probably the same Dana 30 or Dana 44 used in the Jeep. I believe you said earlier it is a half ton so it is probably the Dana 44 (basically the same as a Chevy-Spicer 12 bolt rear). Once again swapping a whole rear (in this case front end) may be less labor intensive and as such faster to repair.
Just throwing it out for thought.

If you had access to a lift it would be a lot easier to just do the repair yourself with it in the car. They usually don't need new gears, just bearings. Even if the gears are a little worn if you set them up so the contact is in the middle of the tooth it will run quiet. |
