I've search a site like this for a long time
I may be not the most knowlegeable guy in an engine but
Always loved to work on those....
I speak french in normal times so my english may sound
strange sometimes.....
I'm about to start a new engine project so it seem a good place,
i've not seen an AMC section yet but i'll surely find some help here in
a way or another.... |

Welcome!
I am sure Smoke will make an AMC section for you.
Now that you said it, I am surprised there isn't one. |

Welcome to the site!
AMC and Chevy were in bed together long before Chrysler bought them out. AMC bought the drawings and tooling to cast the small block Chevy and they also used Rochester carbs and TurboHydramatic transmissions with a Chevy bolt pattern so you are half way there to getting your AMC up to speed no mater how fast you wish to go.
So are we building a tall deck 390-401 or a short deck 390?

Hum,chevy? You have some homeworks to do
They used a packard engine t'ill 55,then THEIR OWN v8 in 56 the gen 1 (250,287,327)used t'ill 66 with.....holley carb and borg/warner(not ford)trans by the way....just try to bolt a chevy there .67 introduce the 2ns gen v8 (290,343,390)still with borg trans.......,
early 70' saw the 3rd gen v8,the "tall deck"who is basically the same as gen2 with raised deck(304,360,401)this time with a torqueflite trans with......amc bellhousing and amc casing......
They did used a 4cyl chevy......and a Buick v6 in jeeps.....2or 3 years of a gm trans in the 50' but beside the Pacard engine and trans stated earlier that's all !!!
Nothing personnal,you seem a nice guy....just a bit misguided
By the way,my engine is a 287 from 66 |

Dave just wants to paint the world orange . i have only worked on a couple AMC engines and, to me, it looked like a mix of a bunch of different stuff. the Javelin was pretty cool though. welcome to SMOKEmUP . _________________
