I don't know if it applies or not. I seem to remember changing the K-frame on a 68 Dart when we switched from a slant 6 to a 340. |

Believe it or not I am restoring a 74 Duster right now for a customer. I just finished color sanding and buffing it yesterday and it also has a 225 slant 6 which the previous owner had tried to hot rod. It had a header and 4 barrel offy manifold, but I returned it to stock. I still have it if you want it It had a small engine fire, and still has some wiring issues that need to be addressed. We used a 67 Dart for a donar car. |

It's been 9 months since your last post, but here is what I know about the V8-into-early A-Body cars tech info. Hope I'm not too late...
1. The K-member can stay, if you're going from a /6 to a small block V8. That changed in 1967, but the '63-'66 K-member will accept the 318-360 motor mounts with no changes.
2. The left side motor mount is different on the 340s and 360s from the 273/318s. Schumacher Creative Services in Seattle can supply it.
3. TTI (the header company) just came out with a header for the small block V8 in the early A-body, and all pipes are above the steering links. Hold onto your wallet...
4. If you put a V8 into a slant 6 car, you MAY need to get a tie rod from a V8 car, as they have a slight dip, or "sow-belly" in the middle, to miss the oil pan.
That's IT... Oh; the 360 Magnum motors have a different "out-of-balance" external balance spec. than the L-A 360s. You'll need to get a flexplate from B & M for either of them, if you go with a Torqueflite and a 360.
I'd recommend a stronger rear axle assembly, too... those little 7.25" units won't last long behind a V8... ANY V8.... LOL!
If you can't find an A body 8.75", the 8.25"s are pretty strong, and I've heard that certain B-body rear ends, which are much easier to find, will fit with only moving the spring perches about 3/4" per side (inboard.) That will necesssitate going to the larger wheel bolt pattern, though.. not a bad idea, anyway.
I love the early A-Bodies... had a '64 Valiant "post" 2-door with a warmed-over 340/4-speed, back in '72-'80. More fun than a barrel full of monkeys! Only car I ever owned that was never outrun...
Ya gotta love a car that never lets you down!!! _________________ Bill Dedman |

Well, 340's are pretty versatile... can make a whole variety of things go fast...
Have fun with it!!! _________________ Bill Dedman |
