The 4L60E's will shift out of low even with the manual selector in the low postion - I don't know about the 700R4's. Some shift kits - especially the Transgo kits for the TH400 - specifically include valves to prevent what you are talking about from happening. It may require a shift kit of some sort to hold low gear to any rpm - I'm just talking from 400 experience, don't specifically know about the 700. Clay

I run a 700R4 in my Nova. When I had that problem I found the linkage on the shifter to the box wasn't allowing the lever to come all the way into first. My fix was to drill another hole in the lever that bolts to the box.

I proof read all my posts and then use SpellCheck to make sure there are no mistakes.

One interesting thing is that "SpellCheck" doesn't know what to do with the word "SpellCheck" Laughing

Originally I was thinking "spelling nazi" but I chose to be PC and call you the spelling enforcer. Laughing

It is the governor it does it on my truck as well. I just have not bothered to fix it because 1. I don't drive it much and 2 it is just a go-for truck so not it's not that important to me. A governor kit from B&M or TCI or ... should fix the problem.

If you buy a full manual reverse pattern valve body the problem will go away (they do not use the two check balls that enable the governor to auto shift). As noted the governor is put in the car to keep it from over revving the engine.

If you buy a 200R4, or 700R4 tranny out of a police car the tranny will not go into first gear on a down shift. The factory builds a special valve body just for dumb cops who have a habit of shoving the gear selector into low to initiate a pursuit.

I use Microsoft Word to spell check everything because it can learn new words and keep vendor’s names from being misspelled. I like to put an extra "R" in Moroso but "big Bill" Gates (formerly the world’s richest man) won’t let me now.
