|
|
My wife's company truck has been a pain for a while! I am tired of her asking me what is wrong!
The 4WD is intermittent. Sometimes she can't get it to engage. And other times after it engages, if you stop, it will disengage, but the 4wd light is still on. They have already replaced the hubs, switch, motor and vacuum lines. And have checked the transfer case inside and found nothing. Sometimes when she turns the 4wd switch on, the windows fog up.
She is tired of getting stuck in the snow!
The people that have the contract with the company are a POS!
I knew this 20 years ago! Parts changer galore! |

havent messed with any 4x4 Rangers but ive seen several F150s that had a bad vac solenoid/switch on the right fender that would go bad and cause ac & 4x4 problems. i will check tomorrow to see what is on that system. _________________

does the 4wd light ever flash?
are there any codes stored in the gem module?
almost every time its a shift motor on the t-case (contact points)
or bad ground at shift relays
it would be interesting to see if any codes like
p1838 p1891 p1867 etc |

does it have locking hubs?
if so lift the vehicle @ all 4 corners and see if 4wd engages
if so leaking hubs(vacuum)
im not sure if this is why your windows fog up or not
worth a try |

Date code: 8/98
Engine: she said 4.3 V6? ( I didn't think Ford made one? )
Trans: 5 speed man.
No engine codes and 4 WD light stays on even when it is stuck in the snow because it never engaged.
I am tempted to purchase a manual and fix the damned thing myself.
It has been to the Ford dealer/ parts changer. And to a transmission shop that is a joke. |

OH SH!T !!! the 4x4 we can fix but theres bigger problems with timing chains on the 4.0L engines. not that that is a concern right now but if youre considering getting rid of it DO IT!!!!. ill post pics when i get the one im working on back together. as for now, i will research some wiring and vac diagrams and see what i can come up with. _________________

Easy 10!
It is the company truck.
I couldn't own a Ford. Not I don't like them, because in recent years they have lost my intrest with the service bullitens I have seen?
PGE does not want to give their mechanics tools to work on the company vehicles any more!
Well the money they pay them they could buy their own and never use them again but why have a tool that is no longer needed?
Except I have modified tools in the past to get me out of a jam. |
